Wings
Why do you crawl
When you can fly?
Among the chaos
You skitter
Directionless
As if lacking sight
Bumbling, fumbling, stumbling
Confused
Don’t you know
You have wings?
Strong, expansive wings
The decay that gave you life
Need weigh you down no more
No longer a maggot
Suckling on another’s shame
You are empowered
To carry yourself high to the
Tops of trees, the
Glowing insides of flowers
Far and Wide
To wondrous places
Yet seen or felt
Don’t you know
You have wings?
Playful, exuberant wings
Allowing you to feel the joy of
Speeding through the soft lavender
Zooming past the dusty rosemary
Spinning in the velvety jasmine
Up
Up
Up on currents yet discovered, until
taking a pause
You let go
Exhilarated by your freedom
Looping
Twirling
Tumbling through the blue, then
Gliding to a soft landing
On a golden new horizon
Why do you crawl
When you can fly?
Each moment spent clinging
To the acid yolk
A little death of what
You are meant to be
Don’t you know
You have wings?
Transparent, reflective wings
Given not
Hiding naught
Springing from your heart
The light of your soul eager to shine
Why do you crawl
When you can fly?
Don’t you know
You have wings!
